Do's and Don'ts of Interviewing 

Objective

 

Things to do before going on an interview:

Do review your resume. Make sure there are no holes in it.

Do list your strengths with examples to support them.

Do list your accomplishments. Be able to explain what you did, why you did it, and results.

Do rehearse all of the above.

 

Things to do during an interview

Dress and act professional.

Do be confident and honest.

Do answer questions with direct in-depth answers.

Do explain briefly (if asked) why you want to leave.

Do be prepared. Study up on product and/or company.

Do answer questions in the singular and not the plural.

Do bring samples of writing (i.e. strategic).

Do ask questions about company and the position.

Do take business cards from people who interview you.

Do write timely thank you notes.

 

Things not to do during an interview

Do not be late.

Do not knock your present company.

Do not fold arms across chest (shows you are closed up).

Do not slouch or sling arm over back of chair.

Do not discuss money unless specifically asked.

Do not inflate your dollars.

Do not beat around the bush when answering questions.

Do not go off on tangents.

 

In Closing

Do tell them you are interested.

Ask what step is next.
